The Malossi Karbonit diaphragm plate kit replaces the original diaphragm plate in engines with a Minarelli horizontal block or a Piaggio 2-stroke block. Karbonit is the Malossi designation for carbon fiber-reinforced diaphragm plates — a material that weighs less than standard plastic diaphragms and is simultaneously stiffer, resulting in more precise gas flow and smoother throttle response.
Membranes are open/close valves in the intake manifold of a 2-stroke engine: they allow the air-fuel mixture to flow from the carburetor to the crankcase and close as soon as the pressure reverses. A damaged or worn diaphragm plate results in looser throttle control, power loss, or poor idling. Replacement with a Karbonit kit restores the original function and can also provide a small power advantage during sporty riding.
