A helmet on the scooter, or would you rather switch to a moped?

PLEASE NOTE HELMET LIGHT: From 1 January 2023, all moped riders and any passengers must wear a helmet.

If you would like to drive a little faster when you are required to wear a helmet and you don't mind driving on the road instead of on the bike path, you can choose to convert your moped (or have it converted) to a moped.

From 3 January you can contact us for the conversion of your scooter or moped, from mustache to moped. We are an RDW-recognition holder. Call or app us in time for an appointment or just walk in with us!

Convert moped to moped

Do you adjust the speed of a light moped (max 25 km/h) to that of a moped (max 45 km/h)? Then you must have the vehicle inspected.

You no longer have to go to an RDW inspection station for this conversion inspection, but you can have this done directly with us. You can contact us quickly and you only pay €100.

What you need to know before you have your moped or scooter overturned:

  • The light moped must be registered in someone's name.
  • You can adjust the moped yourself or we can do it for you. Do you have questions about the conversion? Please feel free to contact us or visit our store.

Approved helmets for mopeds

A helmet that meets the requirements laid down in NTA 8776 may also be worn on a light moped. A helmet that meets NTA 8776 resembles a bicycle helmet, but is designed for higher fall speeds and protects a larger part of the head. This is a lighter and more compact type of helmet than the usual scooter helmets.

This is how testing works at Wheelerworks

From January 3, 2023 you can contact us for the conversion from mustache to hum.

  1. Make an appointment by phone, WhatsApp or e-mail, or just walk in. If your moped is suitable for the conversion inspection, you can have your moped inspected by us. Also bring the registration certificate.

  2. During the inspection, we check, among other things, the maximum speed and the noise level.

  3. You pay €100 for the inspection.

  4. Do we approve your vehicle? We will then pass this on to the RDW. They will then send you a new registration certificate within 5 working days. You will not receive a new registration code. The registration code you have remains valid. Do you still have a paper registration certificate? Then the RDW will send you a letter with the full registration code one working day later.

  5. After receiving the new registration certificate, we can have the registration plate printed for you. The cost of the new plate is €20,-. To be able to have this printed, we need your old blue license plate and a photo of your new license plate card. Usually the plate is printed within one or two working days. We will then exchange your blue plate for a yellow plate.

  6. A moped has different obligations than a light moped. See 'Obligations for 2-wheelers'.
